With craft brewing taking the country by storm, it’s no great surprise that the New River Gorge has become home to a number of microbreweries that create beer that is tasty, locally owned, and often made onsite in smaller batches (or at least crafted locally, and not at the same volume as some of the beer giants). Many places to find the best beer also have a great menu to match, so don’t forget to bring your appetite too!
When you’re spending a weekend in the Gorge, it’s obvious that much of that time will be spent on the water or doing outdoor activities in the park. When it’s time to take a break from nature and explore local offerings, these are some of our favorite places to grab a beer.

Greenbrier Valley Brewing Co: Located in nearby Lewisburg, WV, this brewing company is known for its welcoming tasting room and uniquely named beers (for local figures and mythological ones). If you’re looking for a flavorful beer and a uniquely West Virginia environment, then this is the stop for you!
Dobra Zupas: A new addition to the region, Dobra Zupas began as a local restaurant that served food that was fresh and seasonal, and then moved into brewing. Their motto of “craft food and craft beer” ensures that you’ll walk away with a full belly. They currently have over 10 beers on tap and 30+ in cans – so there’s definitely a beer for every occasion.
Bridge Brew Works: If you’re looking for a local brewery that is gaining statewide attention, then look no further than Bridge Brew Works. You can even stop by during select hours in their onsite tasting room and give one of their beers a tasting! What better way to end a weekend on the whitewater?
Red Dog River Saloon: Onsite at River Expeditions, the RDRS is home to a number of local and national brand beers. The best part? While sipping on your tasty choice, you can watch videos of the highlights of your trip from the day!
Pies and Pints: As the name suggests, you can get beer (pints) and pizza (pies) at this regional favorite. Although slightly larger than some of the other nmes on this list, if you’re looking for some of the best pizza in West Virginia, and also a selection of a number of regional craft beers, you can be sure you’ll be leaving with a full belly!
The Station: Fayetteville’s newest option for craft beers and yummy food, The Station believes in the importance in buying locally and seasonally. This means that when you stop in for a meal after a day on the whitewater, you can be sure that you’re continuing to support local breweries, vineyards, farmers, and other regional businesses.
