Campfire Fun

One of the best parts about a whitewater rafting weekend adventure is that you get to spend the evening in a lodging environment of your choice. While some may prefer the comfort and convenience of a cabin, others are searching for a more rustic solution to their sleeping needs. Regardless of where rafters choose to stay, they still reap the benefits of fun free time with their friends and family members.

If you choose to spend the night outdoors camping under the cover of a tent or just the stars, there are numerous fun activities to pass the time until your next day of getaway time! Many of these games and crafts can be enjoyed by all ages, and often require minimal dedicated space in your packing – making them ideal for fireside fun.

  • Scavenger Hunts: Make a list of indigenous plants and animals that could be seen in the area. Take pictures of your findings and create a fun collage to remember your trip by.
  • Cornhole: Some campsites may even supply the board for this. For a little extra level of excitement, take bets and create prizes for winners!
  • S’mores: I don’t think there is a single person on earth who doesn’t enjoy a hot, fresh, marshmallow s’more. Yum. Now excuse me while I go build a fire.
  • Music: Bring instruments, or play music through battery-powered speakers. Make sure you “neighbors” are okay with your choices – or even invite them to join you!
  • Stargazing: Another classic evening activity that can take place just about anywhere, but for some reason always seems a bit sweeter when you’re away from the hustle of daily life.
  • Board Games & Card Games: Put down your iPhone and pick up the cards or game pieces for some classic fun with your campmates.
  • Play Ball: Bring a football and toss it around while dinner is cooking and the sun is setting. What better way to practice your hand-eye coordination while also getting a little extra exercise?
  • Campfire Stories: These can be spooky tales of terror, or entertaining life stories and anecdotes – or anything in between!

These are just a few of the fun things you can do during your camping weekend. Whatever you choose, ensure that you leave the campsite clear of any debris or trash, while also ensuring that you practice proper fire safety. If you are unsure whether or not you are making too much noise or otherwise disturbing those in relatively close proximity to you – ask! Oftentimes, you can make new friends by doing this t00, who may have more ideas for how to spend the evening.
