Fall Gauley season is in full swing and more and more rafting enthusiasts are flocking to the river for some of the best whitewater around. One of the best things about whitewater rafting on the New or Gauley rivers is that it is a great way to spend some time outside, get your heart pumping, all while getting a great workout! However, if you’re planning more than a single day in the Gorge, chances are you might what to explore some of the local eats and experiences. If you’ve got a day ahead with paintball, hiking, horseback riding, or any number of fun day trips, you’ll need a good breakfast to get you started.
Below we’ve made a list of some of our favorites places to eat breakfast in the New River Gorge.
If the picture above hasn’t gotten your mouth watering, taking a look at the breakfast menu at Vandal’s Kitchen definitely will. A locally owned restaurant that started out as a great place for coffee has become a favorite amongst whitewater visitors and neighbors alike. What makes the yummy food even better? As much of it as possible is sourced locally and made completely from scratch.
Biscuits. We. love. biscuits. And we think you would be hard pressed to find someone who disagrees. Tudor’s Biscuit World, with locations throughout West Virginia has the classic, flakey, warm, soft, crispy, deliciousness that you want and need to start your morning. If biscuits aren’t quite enough to fuel your day, don’t worry, the platters will surely satiate your strongest hunger.
If you wouldn’t immediately eat these delicious cinnamon bun pancakes, are you really a human? Another local favorite, the Cathedral Cafe, is packed with amazing variations (ahem. improvements) on some of your beloved breakfast traditions. Oh and its unique location in an old cathedral makes for a great environment to enjoy pancakes, homemade biscuits and gravy, and much more.
Of course, you don’t have to go out to have the best breakfast possible. But when you’re camping, why not take advantage of the opportunity to make your own breakfast over an open fire? If so, check out these amazing breakfast campsite recipes that are quick, easy, and delicious.
