About the Greenbrier Classic

The Greenbrier Classic is a historical and important stops on the PGA Tour. This year it runs from June 29th – July 5th and will feature some of the top pro golfers in the world, including Bubba Watson. However, those who have been to the Greenbrier Classic before can tell you that there is much more to the cup than just golf. Other local attractions such as whitewater rafting (of course!), hiking, mountain biking, and really anything outdoorsy means that Greenbrier week can be a fantastic summer getaway.

The Greenbrier Classic is one of the most interesting stops on the PGA tour. It is situated on the Old White TPC, completed in 1914, and named for the Old White Hotel that was located on the grounds until 1922. One of the first golfers to visit was President Woodrow Wilson, when the course opened in 1914. The course is known for its beautiful grounds, challenging holes, and expansive fairways. Many famous golfers have continued to play on the course such as Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus. The Greenbrier Classic officially received its name and designation in 2010, and has continued to flourish.

In addition to golf, there are a number of exciting and family friendly events to choose from on Greenbrier Grounds. If music is your thing, there will be several country artists in attendance: Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert, The Band Perry and Keith Urban on July 1st & 3rd. A number of giveaways and contests will also be held throughout the entire week. For the avid runner, a 5k and 10k will both be run on the first day of the festival! If you are looking for other local attractions to the Greenbrier, West Virginia is known for its wide variety of outdoor activities and local shopping. About an hour and a half away, guests can find some of the best whitewater rafting in the country in the New and Gauley Rivers in Oak Hill, West Virginia. Many other local Gorge activities are available, including mountain climbing, hiking, horseback riding, ATV tours, and many others.
