Choosing your rafting adventure!
Rafting is a great way to spend time with friends and family in an exhilarating way that connects guests with each other and with nature. However, it is important to choose a rafting trip that is an appropriate level of difficulty for all rafters. River Expeditions outfits trips down the Gauley River, which splits into two distinct sections; which are also two different difficult levels. When inviting friends on a rafting adventure, be sure that they know their own limits and do not enter into a trip that would be too difficult for their skill level, creating an uncomfortable situation for all.
The Gauley River splits into two routes, the upper and the lower. Both sections are fun filled, exciting, and provide an opportunity to enjoy nature and friends from a different perspective. But, these two sections also represent two levels of difficulty, with the Lower Gauley being appropriate for beginners or first time rafters. The Upper Gauley, while exhilarating, requires that rafters have prior rafting experience and the skills necessary to facilitate a safe and enjoyable trip for all involved.
Sometimes friends are invited on rafting trips down the Upper Gauley River without realizing the difficulty and skill level of the river. Usually, this works out fine, with the staff just having to work a bit harder and adjust the route slightly for the sake of the safety and enjoyment of the least experienced rafter on the trip. While this still results in a fun and exciting trip, experienced rafters may have to sacrifice their chance to enjoy their rafting trip to the fullest.
River Expeditions recommends that all group leaders ensure that all members of their group understands trip options to help them decide what the correct rafting adventure for them. If you are unsure of what rafting trip would be best for you, it is always better to choose the easier of the options, and then, return to River Expeditions to go on the next level up!
