Hungry for more than rafting? Part II

In this week’s update of dining during your whitewater rafting vacation, we will cover local eating options! If you missed our earlier article about onsite dining choices, check it out here.

There are a number of different things to eat in the greater Oak Hill area – ranging from quick and easy to something a bit more local and crafty. If you are looking for local beers and wines, West Virginia is also home to a number of different breweries and vineyards too!

Keep reading for details of some of our favorite local spots..

If you are looking for rib-sticking, homestyle southern comfort food, be sure to check out A Taste of WV Soul. With fried chicken, mac n’ cheese, collard greens and much more, the food here is sure to leave you full and sleepy! Who could ask for more after a long day of outdoor adventure?

For the Mexican lover in your group, we suggest Los Vaqueros, where traditional Mexican food meets great services with that small town feel. With generous portions and an authentic taste, this a great option for dinner. Rumor has it that the margaritas are pretty good too!

Pies & Pints is one of the hometown favorites of the area – serving up craft beer and specialty pizza (“pie”). With options such as Grape Pie and Mediterranean Shrimp Pie, you are sure to find an interesting and unique pizza that will fill your belly and excite your taste buds – not to mention locally brewed beer.

Who doesn’t like biscuits? Especially when they have delicious toppings on them too! If you find yourself with a craving for a soft, buttery biscuit, be sure to check out Tudor’s Biscuit World for one of their semi-famous snacks. This is a great decision for when you’re driving in and need a quick breakfast before your adventure begins.

If wine is your thing, be sure to check out Daniel Vineyards for a taste of local wine with great views of their 192-acre vineyard. With multiple varieties of wine, Daniel Vineyards has something to fit everyone’s preference. Wine tasting, a wedding venue and a spring wine festival are just some of the fun you can have at the vineyard.

So, next time you are planning your whitewater vacation, be sure to check out some of these options (in between rafting, ziplining, horseback riding, hiking…) to fill your belly!
