Other than Rafting the New River Gorge
Other than rafting, there are plenty of things to do in the New River Gorge area of West Virginia. Many attractions highlight the natural beauty and the history of the New River. These activities include rock climbing, hiking, ATV tours, mountain biking, fishing, and zip line canopy tours.
Most of these activities are designed to show off the scenery around the New River. The New River is actually one of the oldest rivers in the world so the area in the New River Valley is very unique, especially in the Gorge area.
There are several outfitters in the area that offer outdoor trips other than rafting. Outfitters offer white water rafting as well as mountain biking, fishing, scenic river trips, ATV tours (through the historic Hatfield-McCoy Trails System), rock climbing, zip line tours, horseback riding, hiking, and even paintball.
Other activities near the New River Gorge area include mine tours such as the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine in Beckley, WV. You can also check out the bizarre Mystery Hole attraction in Anstead. The New River Gorge Bridge in Fayetteville, West Virginia offers an exciting, annual, extreme sports event, Bridge Day. This famous bridge is the longest single-span arch bridge in North America and the third longest in the world. With all these exciting attractions waiting, you don’t have to just go whitewater rafting to enjoy West Virginia and the New River Gorge.
