River Expeditions Hosts Another Totally Awesome 80’s Weekend!

River Expeditions will be hosting their Totally Awesome 80’s Party for the 2nd year following a huge success in the event’s initial launch in 2015. This event celebrates big hair, bright clothes, and of course, one constant from then – great whitewater rafting. Over the weekend of August 6th, River Expeditions invites all rafters – new and old to join them in celebrating one of the best decades during a “totally righteous” weekend. Special events include an 80’s costume party (and prizes to match), an 80’s dance party at the Red Dog River Saloon, and “rad” discounts on popular Saturday rafting.

“What can I say? We love the 80’s! And although we can’t bring back everything, we can bring back enough to make the weekend feel like it’s the 80’s all over again.” Explains River Expeditions owner, Rick Johnson “For a little extra fun, make sure to bring all of your kids “millennial” friends and let them experience the real ‘fun’ from the 80’s!”

The New River Gorge is known for it’s amazing views, amazing whitewater, and unmatchable atmosphere. All levels of whitewater rafting enthusiast can find their fun here, as there truly is a trip for every skill level. In addition to whitewater rafting, the region is home to a number of outdoor activities, including hiking, horseback riding, rock climbing, and more; so there’s plenty to do when it’s time for a break from the water.

Whitewater rafting consists of travelling down a stretch of river on an inflatable raft or other similar vessel. Trips generally span about 5-7 hours, including a break for a waterside lunch. Water temperatures in August average between 70 and 75 degrees – so without a doubt, whitewater rafting will be both refreshing and exciting. The ability to swim is helpful, but not required, and many non-swimmers take to the water every year. Guests are also equipped with all necessary safety equipment including a Coast Guard approved Type V Life Jacket, Paddle, and Helmet.
